How a page is built
The AI-assisted images do not come from a single button press. The work is an iterative production process in which story, references, selection and correction keep the world coherent.
First the scene, the joke and the required characters are decided.
The correct character and setting references are selected before any new image is created.
Images are created, reviewed and rejected until the characters, setting and expression are right.
Dialogue is added, the approved panel is saved and production information is documented for the next page.
AI & creation
One of the core ideas behind Bastu-Kalle is to explore how far a coherent comic world can be built with artificial intelligence as one of the creative tools.
The characters, stories, humour and settings are developed and directed by me. AI helps give the ideas visual form.
Because of a disability, I cannot create images with my hands in the way many traditional artists can. AI has opened a door that was previously closed and made it possible to give long-held ideas a visual form.
About the images
I am aware of the debate around artificial intelligence, copyright and the ethical questions that come with the technology. At the same time, AI has made it possible for me to work visually with ideas, stories, characters and imagined worlds that I have carried with me for a long time.
I describe, choose, change, reject and continue building. Characters and settings develop into established visual models and are reused to create continuity. The images are therefore not simply the result of an algorithm, but also of storytelling, humour, experience, selection and long-term world-building.

Bastu-Kalle is an AI-assisted comic world from Boden, with sauna, coffee, friendship and northern Swedish humour as recurring themes. The project uses established character and setting references to create continuity over time.
AI makes it possible to give a long-held inner visual world a visible form despite practical limitations in traditional image-making. The technology is used as a tool in a directed, iterative storytelling process.

More characters will receive their own image profiles as their final web material is completed.
